Bilingualism

In French and in English.

Growing up in two languages

At Maison des Enfants de Marne la Vallée, children aged 2 to 6 spend their day in French and in English. They learn English naturally, through immersion, without language lessons or translation.

Bilingualism every day

One language per adult

Each adult, although bilingual, speaks to the children in only one language. Children know which language to speak to each person and switch from one to the other effortlessly.

The sensitive period for language

Between 1 and 6 years old, children absorb a second language like their mother tongue, gradually and at their own pace.

English throughout the day

Stories, songs, nursery rhymes, daily routines and everyday moments are shared in English. In the 3–6 environment, the Montessori materials are also presented in English.

An English-speaking team in every class

The 2–3 class has an English-speaking assistant, and the 3–6 environment has two English-speaking teachers. They work all day with the French-speaking team.

The benefits of bilingualism

Practising two languages early sparks curiosity, encourages openness to others and self-confidence, and keeps the mind flexible.
